Hip

Hip pain covers greater trochanteric pain syndrome, osteoarthritis, FAI, labral tears, and referred pain from the back. Location and mechanism narrow it down before we load.

Hip Physiotherapy in Johor

"Hip pain" is a label that sits on top of half a dozen different problems. Pain on the outer side usually means greater trochanteric pain syndrome (once called bursitis).

Pain in the groin points toward the hip joint itself - osteoarthritis, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), or a labral tear.

Pain in the buttock may be piriformis, a referred pattern from the lumbar spine, or sacroiliac.

Pain "around the hip" is sometimes not hip at all - it's back.

Why location matters so much

The treatment difference between, say, gluteal tendinopathy and true hip osteoarthritis is substantial.

Tendinopathy wants progressive loading of the glute medius; avoiding sleeping on the sore side; getting off steroid injections early.

Hip osteoarthritis wants a combined programme of strength, mobility and weight management; referral for joint replacement timing when appropriate.

Same "hip pain", different plan.

What assessment covers

Exact location (point with one finger), aggravating movements, weight-bearing tolerance, range of motion tests (FABER, FADIR), strength in hip abductors and rotators, lumbar spine screen to rule out referred pain, and sometimes a short walking video.

Related conditions we treat

Hip bursitis / GTPS, post-hip replacement, low back pain, sciatica.

Cost and Johor context

RM120-250 per session. Course length varies widely - a conservative GTPS may take 12–16 weeks; post-hip replacement runs 12–16 weeks from week 2 onwards. We coordinate with orthopaedic surgeons at Gleneagles Medini, Regency Specialist, KPJ Johor Specialist.

FAQs

What symptoms mean I should ask about Hip physiotherapy in Johor?
Pain, stiffness, weakness, numbness, swelling, repeated flare-ups, balance change or reduced daily function are common reasons to ask for a screen. A physiotherapist should also check red flags before starting treatment.
How does treatment for Hip physiotherapy in Johor usually work, and what does it cost?
A first session normally includes history, movement testing, red-flag screening, education and a home exercise plan. In Johor, clinic sessions commonly sit around RM120-250, while home visits are usually RM120-250 depending on distance, case complexity and session length.
When is physiotherapy not enough for Hip physiotherapy in Johor?
If symptoms include fever, unexplained weight loss, severe night pain, new bladder or bowel changes, progressive neurological loss, suspected fracture or post-surgical infection, see a doctor or hospital first. Compared with rest alone, physiotherapy gives a graded recovery plan that often takes weeks, or months after surgery.
