Conditions
Achilles Tendinopathy
Should I stop running?
Usually not complete rest - modified volume plus loading exercise is the evidence-based approach.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.
Do I need a doctor's referral first?
No referral is required to see a physiotherapist in Malaysia. We will refer back to a doctor if a red flag turns up.
Can my family insurance cover it?
Most private medical plans in Malaysia cover physio with a doctor's note. We can WhatsApp you a session brief to attach to a claim.
Will the same physio see me each session?
Yes. Continuity of one physio per case is part of how we match. Hand-overs only happen if you change locations.
Bell's Palsy
How do I know this is Bell's palsy and not a stroke?
Classic Bell's palsy affects the forehead too - you can't wrinkle it on the affected side. A stroke usually spares forehead movement. If you have speech, arm or leg weakness alongside the facial droop, go to hospital A&E immediately.
Is electrical stimulation worth it for facial muscles?
Evidence is mixed. We use mirror-based specific movement retraining as the main tool; electrical stimulation is an adjunct for patients where voluntary movement is very limited in the first 6–8 weeks.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.

Hip Bursitis (Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome)
Do I really need a cortisone injection for hip bursitis?
Not automatically. Current evidence favours a loaded rehab programme first - it outperforms injection at the 12-month mark for gluteal tendinopathy. We reserve injection for cases that can't tolerate even the lightest loading.
Why is it worse at night when I sleep on that side?
Side-lying compresses the gluteal tendons against the bony hip point. A pillow between the knees and adjusting to back- or opposite-side sleeping for 4–6 weeks usually settles the night pain enough to progress rehab.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.

Calf Strain
What symptoms mean I should ask about Calf Strain physiotherapy in Johor?
Pain, stiffness, weakness, numbness, swelling, repeated flare-ups, balance change or reduced daily function are common reasons to ask for a screen. A physiotherapist should also check red flags before starting treatment.
How does treatment for Calf Strain physiotherapy in Johor usually work, and what does it cost?
A first session normally includes history, movement testing, red-flag screening, education and a home exercise plan. In Johor, clinic sessions commonly sit around RM120-250, while home visits are usually RM120-250 depending on distance, case complexity and session length.
When is physiotherapy not enough for Calf Strain physiotherapy in Johor?
If symptoms include fever, unexplained weight loss, severe night pain, new bladder or bowel changes, progressive neurological loss, suspected fracture or post-surgical infection, see a doctor or hospital first. Compared with rest alone, physiotherapy gives a graded recovery plan that often takes weeks, or months after surgery.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Do I need surgery?
Only if conservative care fails after 8–12 weeks, or if there's significant muscle wasting or severe constant numbness.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.

Yes. Continuity of one physio per case is part of how we match. Hand-overs only happen if you change locations.
Cervical Spondylosis
If my MRI shows cervical spondylosis, do I have it?
Findings on imaging are common and often don't match symptoms. A physio or doctor correlates imaging with your clinical picture. Many people with significant findings have no symptoms at all.
Can cervical spondylosis be reversed?
The structural changes (disc height loss, joint wear) cannot be reversed. But symptoms, stiffness, and function can improve substantially with physio.
Do I need traction?
Mechanical traction helps some patients with radicular (nerve root) symptoms. It is not necessary for most cases.
Coccydynia (Tailbone Pain)
Will a coccyx cushion fix it on its own?
A U-shaped cushion helps you tolerate sitting during recovery, but it rarely fixes the underlying problem. Most coccydynia cases need manual work on the pelvic floor and coccyx, plus posture correction and graded sitting tolerance over 6–10 weeks.
Is internal coccygeal treatment necessary?
For persistent cases, often yes. A qualified pelvic-health physio can mobilise the coccyx via the rectum to release scar tissue and restore normal joint motion. We always explain it fully and get written consent first.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.

Frozen Shoulder
Will frozen shoulder go away on its own?
Eventually, yes - typically 12 to 18 months - but you can lose significant range of motion along the way that is hard to fully regain. Staged physiotherapy shortens the course and preserves movement.
Is an injection needed?
Corticosteroid injection can be very helpful in the painful first stage when used alongside physio. Discuss with your doctor; we can liaise with an orthopaedic specialist if one is needed.
Is frozen shoulder linked to diabetes?
Yes - diabetics have a 3–5× higher lifetime risk. Blood sugar control during the frozen phase is particularly important.
Golfer's Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)
Do I need to stop training completely to fix golfer's elbow?
In most cases no - we modify load rather than stop it. Heavy gripping drops for 2–3 weeks while we rebuild wrist-flexor tolerance with slow, heavy eccentrics. Most patients in our Johor caseload return to full training at 6–10 weeks.
Is it the same as tennis elbow?
Same pattern (tendinopathy), different tendon. Golfer's elbow affects the inside of the elbow (wrist flexors); tennis elbow the outside (wrist extensors). Rehab logic is similar but targets the opposite forearm group.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.

Compared with rest alone, physiotherapy gives a graded recovery plan that often takes weeks, or months after surgery.
Herniated Disc
Can a herniated disc heal without surgery?
Most do. The disc bulge often reabsorbs over 3–6 months, and symptoms usually improve much faster than the imaging does.
Should I still exercise?
Yes - guided exercise is the main treatment. Bed rest makes it worse.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.
Do I need a doctor's referral first?

Can my family insurance cover it?
Most private medical plans in Malaysia cover physio with a doctor's note. We can WhatsApp you a session brief to attach to a claim.
IT Band Syndrome
Why does my IT band hurt at exactly 4 km every run?
IT band pain is load-accumulation driven - the tissue compresses against the outer knee past a threshold of cycles. We find that threshold, reduce stride length to raise cadence, and build hip abductor strength. Most runners push past the old threshold within 4–6 weeks.
Should I foam-roll the IT band?
Foam-rolling gives short-term relief but does not change the tendon itself. The durable fix is hip strength (gluteus medius in particular) plus a cadence cue. We still use rolling as a symptom tool, not the treatment.

Knee Pain
Does my knee need surgery?
Most knee pain does not need surgery. A physio assessment can tell you whether your presentation is one that responds to rehab (patellofemoral pain, mild meniscus irritation, early osteoarthritis, runner's knee, IT band) or whether an orthopaedic opinion is needed (clear ACL tear, locked knee, bone-on-bone osteoarthritis with deformity).
How much does knee physio cost in Johor?
RM120-250 per session, depending on clinic tier and treatment time. A full course of 6–10 sessions runs RM120-250.
Can I run with knee pain?
It depends on the pattern. Patellofemoral pain often improves with modified loading rather than full rest. ACL-deficient knees need rehab before return to running. The specific answer comes from your physio assessment - avoid self-diagnosing from YouTube.
I've had an MRI showing a 'meniscus tear' - do I need surgery?
Not automatically. Many degenerative meniscus changes are incidental and not the actual cause of pain. Current evidence favours a physio trial first for most degenerative tears. Traumatic tears with mechanical locking are a different story.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.
Shoulder Labral Tear (SLAP / Bankart)
Can a labral tear heal without surgery?
The labrum itself doesn't heal like a muscle, but many tears become symptom-free as the surrounding cuff and scapular system learn to compensate. We trial 12 weeks of structured rehab first; overhead athletes who fail that may go to surgical consult.
If I go for surgery, how does rehab change?
Post-op follows the surgeon's protocol - usually a sling for 4–6 weeks, then a tightly paced loading progression. Returning to overhead sport is typically at month 5–6 and takes structured physio to get there safely.

Low Back Pain
How many sessions will I need for low back pain?
Most uncomplicated mechanical low back pain cases in our Johor network resolve within 4–8 sessions over 3–6 weeks, assuming the patient does the home exercise plan. Complicated or long-standing cases may need 10–12 sessions.
How much does low back pain physio cost in Johor Bahru?
Typical Johor rates run RM120-250 per session depending on clinic tier and treatment time. Private clinics in Iskandar Puteri tend to sit at the higher end; Skudai, Kulai and Kluang sit mid-range.
Do I need an MRI or X-ray before I see a physio?
For most mechanical low back pain, no. A physio will screen for red flags first (night pain, fever, bladder issues, leg weakness). Imaging is only needed if one of those flags is present or if 4–6 weeks of conservative care has not improved symptoms.
Is low back pain covered by SOCSO or insurance in Malaysia?
If the injury happened at work, SOCSO panel physios can treat it under the employer's registration. Most private medical insurance in Malaysia also covers physio with a doctor's referral - check your panel list first.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.

Compared with rest alone, physiotherapy gives a graded recovery plan that often takes weeks, or months after surgery.
Meniscus Tear
MRI shows a meniscus tear - do I need surgery?
Not automatically. Many degenerative tears improve with physio; surgery is mainly for traumatic tears with mechanical symptoms (locking, giving way).
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.
Do I need a doctor's referral first?

Compared with rest alone, physiotherapy gives a graded recovery plan that often takes weeks, or months after surgery.
Neck Pain
How many sessions do I need for neck pain?
Most mechanical neck pain responds to 4–6 sessions over 3–5 weeks. Longer-standing cases (more than 6 months) may need 8–10 sessions plus disciplined ergonomic changes.
Is it a pinched nerve or just muscle?
A physio assessment can usually tell within one visit. Symptoms radiating past the shoulder into the arm or fingers suggest a nerve component; pain that stays local is usually muscular/joint.
Do I need an MRI first?
Not for most cases. MRI is useful only when red flags are present or when 4–6 weeks of physio has not improved symptoms.
Parkinson's Disease Rehabilitation
Is physio useful even in early Parkinson's?
Yes - early is the best window. High-intensity amplitude training (LSVT BIG-style), gait cueing and boxing conditioning are linked to slower functional decline. Waiting until mobility is visibly affected loses that window.
What does 'big amplitude' training actually mean at home?
Deliberately oversized arm swings, long stride walking, exaggerated sit-to-stand. The brain with Parkinson's tends to under-scale movement automatically; training bigger recalibrates what feels 'normal'. We coach each patient into a daily 20–30 minute home protocol.
Patellofemoral Pain (Runner's Knee)
Should I stop running while I fix runner's knee?
Not necessarily. We usually drop volume 30–50% for 2–3 weeks, cut downhill running and cap the longest run, then progress hip and quad strength. Most Johor parkrun runners return to their prior weekly volume inside 6–8 weeks.
Do I need an MRI for front-of-knee pain?
For a typical patellofemoral presentation without swelling or locking, no. We screen for red flags, watch how you squat and step, then start a graded loading programme. Imaging is reserved for cases that don't respond to 6 weeks of loaded rehab.

Plantar Fasciitis
Do I need arch supports or custom orthotics?
Off-the-shelf supports help some patients in the acute phase. Custom orthotics are rarely necessary - the bulk of recovery comes from exercise, not inserts.
Does shockwave therapy actually work?
For chronic (> 3 months) plantar fasciitis that hasn't responded to exercise alone, yes - evidence is moderate to strong. We use it selectively.
Should I stop running?
Not always. Modified running volume + rehab works for many. Complete cessation often makes the tissue deconditioned and slower to recover.
Post-ACL Surgery Rehab
When can I start running?
Typically around 12–16 weeks post-op, and only after meeting specific strength and hop-test criteria. Running before those is a leading predictor of re-tear.
When can I return to sport?
6–9 months is the modern standard, with sport-specific and contact drills layered into the last 6–8 weeks. Returning earlier than 9 months doubles your re-injury risk for cutting sports.
Do I need the expensive BFR (blood flow restriction) training?
Not always. It's useful in the early post-op phase when you can't tolerate heavy loads yet. A trained physio decides based on your response, not the marketing.
Post-Fracture Rehabilitation
When do I start physio after a fracture?
Timing depends on the fracture and the surgeon's plan. Many upper-limb fractures start physio 2–6 weeks post-injury; lower-limb weight-bearing cases often wait 6–12 weeks until the surgeon clears full loading.
Will I get full movement back?
Most uncomplicated fractures regain 90%+ of pre-injury function with consistent rehab. Long periods of immobilisation and complex fractures may leave some permanent stiffness.
Does SOCSO cover post-fracture physio?
Yes if the fracture was work-related and filed within 60 days. Panel clinics manage the full rehab pathway.
Post-Hip Replacement Rehabilitation
When can I drive again after a hip replacement?
Most surgeons clear driving between weeks 4 and 6 for a left hip (automatic) and 6–8 weeks for a right hip, contingent on reaction time, pain off opioids and hip flexion past 90°. Your surgeon's rule is the one to follow.
Should I use a walker or a cane first?
Most of our Johor post-hip patients use a walker for the first 1–2 weeks, then a single cane until the quad and glute strength returns - usually 4–6 weeks. Tossing the cane too early puts load on the new joint with a limp, which slows recovery.
Post-Knee Replacement Rehab
When can I drive again?
Typically 6–8 weeks post-op once you can reliably perform an emergency stop, confirmed by your surgeon.
Will I ever fully bend my knee?
Most patients reach 115–125° bend by month 3–6. Full pre-op bend is not always regained; function is the goal, not degrees.
Post-Rotator Cuff Repair Rehabilitation
Why is the sling so important in the first 6 weeks?
The repaired tendon is at its weakest in the first 4–6 weeks while biological healing takes hold. The sling limits the one thing that can re-tear it - active elevation. We do passive and assisted movement in that window, never active lifting.
When can I drive and sleep on my side again?
Driving typically returns around week 6–8 when the sling comes off and active range is clean. Sleeping on the operated side usually becomes comfortable around week 10–12; we use a wedge pillow to protect the shoulder at night in the earlier phases.
Post-Spine Surgery Rehabilitation
When should physio start after spine surgery?
Most discectomies can start gentle walking and basic movement in week 1–2, with active rehab from week 4–6. Fusions are slower - typically 6–12 weeks before loaded rehab starts. We match the pace to your surgeon's operative note, not a generic rule.
Can I go back to lifting my grandchild or heavy groceries?
Yes, eventually - but graded. Most of our Johor post-discectomy patients progress to 10 kg lifts by week 8–10 and full unrestricted loading by month 4. Fusion timelines are longer. Surgery improved the structure; rehab teaches the spine how to absorb load again.

Rounded Shoulder Posture / Upper-Crossed Syndrome
What symptoms mean I should ask about Rounded Shoulder Posture / Upper-Crossed Syndrome physiotherapy in Johor?
Pain, stiffness, weakness, numbness, swelling, repeated flare-ups, balance change or reduced daily function are common reasons to ask for a screen. A physiotherapist should also check red flags before starting treatment.
How does treatment for Rounded Shoulder Posture / Upper-Crossed Syndrome physiotherapy in Johor usually work, and what does it cost?
A first session normally includes history, movement testing, red-flag screening, education and a home exercise plan. In Johor, clinic sessions commonly sit around RM120-250, while home visits are usually RM120-250 depending on distance, case complexity and session length.
When is physiotherapy not enough for Rounded Shoulder Posture / Upper-Crossed Syndrome physiotherapy in Johor?
If symptoms include fever, unexplained weight loss, severe night pain, new bladder or bowel changes, progressive neurological loss, suspected fracture or post-surgical infection, see a doctor or hospital first. Compared with rest alone, physiotherapy gives a graded recovery plan that often takes weeks, or months after surgery.
Rotator Cuff Injury
Do I need an MRI to confirm a tear?
Only if symptoms do not respond to 6 weeks of structured rehab, or if there's weakness/trauma suggestive of a full tear needing surgical consideration.
Can a torn rotator cuff heal without surgery?
Partial tears and many full-thickness tears in people over 60 function very well with rehab alone. Younger active patients with acute full-thickness tears more often need surgical repair.
How long before I can lift overhead again?
For tendinopathy: 6–10 weeks. For post-op repair: 4–6 months with gradual loading.
Sciatica
How do I know it's sciatica and not just back pain?
Sciatica pain typically travels below the knee and often feels burning, electric, or like pins and needles. If the pain stops at the buttock or upper thigh, it's usually not true sciatica.
Do I need surgery for sciatica?
Most sciatica - even with disc involvement - resolves without surgery. Surgery is considered only if there's severe weakness, bladder/bowel changes, or 6–8 weeks of good physio hasn't helped.
Will bed rest help?
No - prolonged bed rest makes sciatica worse. Structured movement with a physio's guidance is the evidence-based approach.

Shin Splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome)
When is shin pain actually a stress fracture?
If pain localises to a spot tender to firm finger pressure, hurts at rest or at night, and is worse with every run rather than better as you warm up, we refer for imaging. Diffuse ache along a long stretch of bone that eases after warm-up is the classic splint pattern.
Do new shoes fix shin splints?
Shoes help at the margins - a cushioned shoe can buy some tolerance during recovery. But shin splints are almost always a training-load problem (too far, too fast, too soon). Load management plus calf and hip strengthening is the real fix.
Sprained Ankle
How long before I can play sport again after a sprained ankle?
A straightforward grade I sprain often returns to running within 2–3 weeks and to cutting sports at 4–6 weeks, once balance and single-leg hopping tests look clean. A grade II–III sprain or one with a history of repeat sprains often needs 8–12 weeks of structured rehab.
Why does my ankle keep going over if I already rested it?
Rest alone does not retrain the proprioceptors. Without deliberate balance, strength and landing retraining, the joint stays mechanically fine on imaging but behaves unstably on uneven ground - that is the classic recurrent sprain pattern we see in Johor pickleball and futsal players.
How soon will I feel a difference?

Stroke Rehabilitation
Can a physio come to our home?
Yes. Home-visit neuro physio is a core part of our service - particularly in the first 3–6 months post-stroke when safe transfers to clinic may be difficult. Available across JB city, Iskandar Puteri, Skudai, Johor Jaya, Permas Jaya, Kulai, and on a case-by-case basis in other districts.
How much does stroke physio cost in Johor?
Clinic sessions run RM120-250. Home-visit sessions RM120-250 depending on travel distance. Intensity matters more than frequency - some families do 2 sessions a week plus daily family-led exercises for better value.
Is it too late if the stroke was a year ago?
No. While the fastest gains happen in the first 3–6 months, meaningful functional improvements are still possible years after a stroke, especially in speech, balance, fine hand function, and gait quality. The approach shifts from repair to adaptation and task-specific training.
Does SOCSO or employer insurance cover stroke physio?
SOCSO covers strokes related to workplace injury. For non-work-related strokes, some private insurance plans cover outpatient physio with a doctor's referral - check panel clinics. Many families self-fund the rehab component.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Most patients feel some change within the first 2 to 3 sessions. Bigger functional gains usually arrive between weeks 3 and 6.
Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylalgia)
Should I wear a tennis elbow strap?
A counterforce brace can help some patients in the acute phase. It's a short-term aid, not a cure - the cure is loading.
Does shockwave help?
Moderate evidence for chronic cases (> 3 months) unresponsive to exercise alone. We use it selectively.
Will a steroid injection fix it?
It gives short-term relief (6–12 weeks) but outcomes at 6–12 months are often worse than physio alone. We generally advise against repeat injections.
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
How is thoracic outlet syndrome different from a simple pinched nerve?
TOS involves compression near the collarbone and first rib, so symptoms often appear with overhead work, carrying a heavy bag, or specific sleeping positions. A cervical pinched nerve usually maps to one dermatome and worsens with neck movement. A good physio assessment distinguishes the two within one visit.
Is surgery usually needed?
Rarely. The majority of Johor patients we see respond to 8–12 weeks of rib-cage mobility work, first-rib mobilisation, postural retraining and graded nerve glides. Surgery is reserved for vascular TOS and for neurogenic cases that fail a proper conservative trial.
How soon will I feel a difference?

Whiplash (Cervical Acceleration-Deceleration Injury)
Should I wear a soft collar after whiplash?
No, not for long. Modern evidence is clear: early graded movement beats collar-and-rest. Prolonged collar use slows recovery and increases the chance of chronic symptoms. We start gentle controlled range-of-motion in the first few days.
How does insurance / MC work for whiplash from a road accident?
We routinely write physio progress notes suitable for motor insurance claims in Malaysia and, where relevant, SOCSO if the crash happened on a work-related trip. Keep the police report, hospital note and all receipts - those are what insurers and SOCSO will ask for.

Dry Needling
Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?
The needles are similar but the clinical framework is different. Dry needling targets myofascial trigger points and muscle physiology; acupuncture follows meridian theory from Chinese medicine.
Does it hurt?
Insertion is usually barely felt. A 'twitch response' from the muscle can feel like a brief cramp. Post-session soreness for 12–24 hours is common.
Who shouldn't have dry needling?
People with bleeding disorders, those on strong anticoagulants (check with your doctor first), needle phobia, or local skin infection.
Is this treatment safe for me?
Every patient is screened first. If a red flag is present, we route you to a doctor before treatment starts.
How many sessions will I likely need?
Most cases respond within 4 to 8 sessions. The matched physio confirms a realistic plan after the first assessment.
Electrotherapy (TENS, NMES, IFC)
Will TENS or electrotherapy alone fix my back pain?
No, and any clinic that says yes is overselling it. TENS is a good short-term pain control tool that lets you move and load earlier - that movement and loading is what actually drives recovery. We use electrotherapy as a bridge, not the destination.
Is NMES useful after my knee surgery?
Yes - NMES on the quadriceps in the first 4–6 weeks after knee replacement or ACL reconstruction has solid evidence for reducing strength loss while pain limits voluntary contraction. We pair it with daily quad activation drills.

Exercise Therapy
Why should I do prescribed exercises if I already exercise at the gym?
General gym work conditions you for general life. Prescribed exercise therapy is dosed to a specific tissue diagnosis - tendon, joint, nerve, post-op repair - at a load and tempo your body can adapt to. Most patients in our Johor caseload graduate back to their gym programme by week 6–10 once the loaded rehab is in.
How often do I need to do the home programme?
Most evidence-based programmes ask for 3–5 days a week, 15–25 minutes per session. We design the home plan around your real schedule - early morning before the JB commute, after work, or on lunch breaks for office workers - so it actually gets done.

Manual Therapy
Does manual therapy 'crack' joints?
Only some techniques (high-velocity manipulation) do. Most are gentle mobilisations. Your physio will explain what they're doing and ask consent first.
How long does the effect last?
A single session typically gives short-term pain relief (hours to days). For lasting change, manual therapy must be paired with the right exercises.
Is it safe for neck pain?
Yes for most people. Physios screen for red flags (vertebrobasilar signs, upper cervical instability) before high-velocity neck manipulation.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
How many shockwave sessions will I need?
Standard course is 3–5 weekly sessions. Plantar fasciitis and calcific shoulder tendinopathy commonly respond at session 3–4. We pair every shockwave session with a loaded home programme - the modality alone, without loading, is much weaker.
Does it hurt? And is there downtime?
It is uncomfortable but tolerable for most patients - most rate it 4–6/10 during delivery, easing immediately after. There is no downtime; we usually advise easing into the next 48 hours of activity rather than going hard straight after.
Is this treatment safe for me?
Every patient is screened first. If a red flag is present, we route you to a doctor before treatment starts.

Therapeutic Ultrasound
Does ultrasound actually do anything, or is it just placebo?
It depends on what for. Honest answer: for fresh post-surgical scars and a few specific tendon problems there is real evidence; for chronic generalised pain the effect is small. We use it as an add-on, never as the headline treatment, and we will tell you when it is not worth your money.
Why do some Johor clinics use ultrasound on every patient?
It is fast to deliver and easy to bill, which keeps it on the menu in higher-volume clinics. A physio who cares about outcomes uses it selectively - that is one of the things we screen for in the clinics we refer to.
Is this treatment safe for me?
Every patient is screened first. If a red flag is present, we route you to a doctor before treatment starts.
How many sessions will I likely need?
Most cases respond within 4 to 8 sessions. The matched physio confirms a realistic plan after the first assessment.
Do you cover home visits?
Yes. Home-visit physio is routine in our network across Johor.

Services
Clinic Visit Physiotherapy
What's the typical first clinic visit like in Johor?
Allow 60 minutes for the first session. Most clinics in our network do a structured history, an objective assessment (movement, strength, neurological if relevant), a working diagnosis discussion, and start treatment in the same session. You leave with a clear plan, a home programme and an estimate of session count.
Do I need to bring scans or referral letters?
Bring whatever you have - MRI, X-ray, doctor's referral, surgical notes. None are mandatory; physios in Malaysia can assess and treat without a doctor's referral. But if you have them, they save assessment time and make the plan more precise.
Who is this service best for?
Patients who fit the clinical profile we describe above. Our brief WhatsApp screen confirms whether this is the right match.
What is the typical price range?
Most cases sit within RM120-250 per home visit. Travel distance can shift the rate.
Can family members observe the session?
Yes. Family-coaching is part of how home-visit physio works.
Corporate On-Site Physiotherapy
What does a corporate on-site physio engagement actually look like?
Typical contract: a physio attends your site once a week (offices) or twice a week (manufacturing) for a 4-hour block. They run 30-minute slots - assessment, brief treatment, ergonomic advice - for staff signed up that week. We also do team workshops on lifting and desk set-up.
Does it reduce SOCSO and insurance claims?
Yes - the published evidence on workplace physio programmes shows meaningful drops in MC days and claim count, particularly for back and shoulder injuries. We can quote on a 6-month or 12-month contract; client reporting includes session counts, common complaints and trended outcomes.

Is equipment brought to the home?
Yes - resistance bands, measurement tools, stopwatch, and portable assessment gear. Larger equipment (parallel bars, treadmill) isn't available at home; we adapt.
Does it cost much more than clinic?
Typically RM120-250 more per session depending on travel distance. In early post-op or fall-prevention contexts, the saving on time, safety, and energy often outweighs the cost.

Online Physiotherapy Consultation
When is online physio enough - and when is it not?
Online works well for: a mid-programme exercise progression review, a desk-set-up consult, return-to-running coaching, post-discharge home-programme tweaks. It is not enough for a first assessment of a complex new injury, anything with red flags, or hands-on treatment needs.
Can a Singapore-based patient use online physio with PhysioJohor?
Yes - many of our SG-resident patients use one online session before crossing for a hands-on appointment to confirm the plan, plus follow-ups between in-person visits. It saves a checkpoint trip and keeps the plan moving.
