Every week we see Johor workers who waited too long to file a SOCSO claim and lost coverage they were entitled to.
The rule is simple but easy to miss: your employer must notify SOCSO within 60 days of the injury.
If that window closes, the claim is usually denied, and you're left paying out of pocket for treatment that should have been free.
Day 1 - the day of injury
- Tell your supervisor in writing (email, WhatsApp, internal form - keep a copy).
- Get a record of the incident with exact date, time, and description.
- If there are witnesses, note their names.
- See a doctor - company clinic, public clinic, or A&E if urgent. Ensure they issue a SOCSO medical report (Form 34). Without this, the claim cannot proceed.
Day 2–7
- Your employer should file through the SOCSO employer portal within this window.
- Ask for a copy of everything submitted.
- Keep all receipts, MC papers, and medical notes.
- Start gentle movement only if cleared by the doctor - don't wait for "everything to be better" before starting rehab.
Day 7–60 - if it's still not filed
- Remind your employer in writing. Escalate to HR if needed.
- You can file directly with SOCSO yourself if the employer refuses - it's harder but possible.
- Keep documenting every communication.
Once the claim is approved
- SOCSO refers you to a panel physio clinic. Treatment is covered.
- If the assigned clinic is inconvenient for your home or workplace, you can request a different panel clinic.
- Your return-to-work plan is developed in stages - light modified duties first, gradual return to full duties.
Common reasons claims get denied
- Filed late (most common).
- No Form 34 from a doctor.
- Incident not properly recorded at the time.
- Pre-existing condition not flagged.
- Injury genuinely not work-related.
What PhysioJohor does
We can match you to a SOCSO-panel physio quickly once your claim is approved, and we stay in touch during the return-to-work phase.
If the process is stuck, we can sometimes help signpost to the right SOCSO officer.
WhatsApp us with your injury type, employer, and whether a claim has been filed - we'll tell you what to do next.
